Cooking is a big part of our lives.  As a family we love to spend a lot of time preparing and eating delicious food together.  We’ll briefly tell you our story: we’re a mother and daughter team from New York City.

I'm Vivette also known as Vivi. I am a freelance picture editor/researcher. I grew up on the upper west side of Manhattan, exposed to many different tastes and food experiences. My daughter Ella and I always wanted to create a food blog together.

When she recently decided to take a gap year and I was free of the daily grind we decided that the timing was finally right to do it. We are influenced by our European roots but love food from all over. We are very interested in fresh, healthy ingredients, but also love sweets!

A passion for cooking runs through our family.  My husband learned everything from his mother, who was a gourmet cook favoring French cuisine with rich sauces and complex desserts. I learned how to make Austrian dishes from my Viennese mother. My sister Claudia, who is an artist as well as a great cook, will be among our contributors. She's trained at the French Culinary Institute, and has lived all over the world. She has a variety of recipes that reflect the breadth of her travels. Ella, when asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" for the caption of her elementary school yearbook revealed she wanted to be a professional baker. Recently she said that her life changed after we got a mandolin slicer. When she made that announcement I knew cooking had become more than just a hobby.

I'm Ella and I'm the daughter in this mother-daughter equation! I graduated high school last spring and decided to take a gap year before starting college this fall. I've grown up sitting at the kitchen counter, first watching, then helping my parents cook dinner.

I've inherited a strong appreciation for the satisfaction of cooking a delicious meal, especially in the company of family and friends. Towards the end of high school I came to find comfort in cooking, because it was the only thing that could distract me from the stress of school and applying to college. I spend almost all of my free time either cooking/baking, browsing my favorite food blogs, reading through my library of food magazines, or collecting recipes to make in the future.

Ella is a confident and commanding force in our kitchen.  She has a keen eye for aesthetics, and loves adapting old recipes for the modern palate.  We share our love for meal planning, shopping, prepping, cooking and finally, the moment we say "Bon Appetit" and sit down to eat! We’ll feature our comfort foods, favorite weekday meals, occasional really huge food projects and lots of desserts. We can't wait to share our excitement and joy with you!
